Optimism and Psychological Distress Among First-Year Students During The COVID-19 Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a global effect, causing psychological distress for many people. This researchaims to determine the relationship between optimism and among first-year students duringthe pandemic. research performed using quantitative method with non-probability samplingapplied quota sampling technique obtained sample of 100 at Universitas HangTuah (UHT). Optimism was measured Life Orientation Test-Revised (LOT-R) developed by Scheier,Carver, Bridges. Psychological Kessler Distress Scale (K10)developed Mroczek. results data analysis Spearman Rank-order showed acorrelation coefficient (rs) -.395 value p = .000 (p < .01). demonstrates that there is negativerelationship during Covid-19pandemic. also reveal majority in level amongfirst-year UHT high category.
